Hello:
I am considering this OTA. Could anybody tell me how this combo works for visual only (no astrophotography)?
I know that Celestron sell the C11 over a CG5GT but I would like to know also the opinions of the users of CN.
Thanks a lot,
Alex

Hey Alex,
You'll get some varied opinions on this one. The CG5-GT is a fine mount. It's noisy, so don't be surprised if you wake up the neighbors, but its go-tos are great.
Now, I've used a CG5 with a 9.25" SCT it found it a bit wobbly. Not terribly so, sometimes a few seconds to damp down on the vibrations. I think it would be possible to use a C11, but vibration will be an issue for you. The difference in weight is significant.
I know there are some folks who are quite content, you may find it suits you, too--or not.

Bad idea, IMHO I had C9.25 with GG5GT. Already was at the very limit of that mount. I think it could handle an 8" reasonably, but not for serious photography. I had to return mine (traded in for a Skywatcher EQ6 Pro) after a number of quirks & problems with the CG5, that was the best move I ever did.

Abutu, I told you before. If the c9 is not a good idea on your CG5GT, the C11 will be worse. Have you even seen any of these tubes?
At this point, change the mount or keep the C8. Or much better: get directly a C14 system.
Alternativelly, you can keep your TSA on CG5GT, which is a light equipment, and get a 12"-16" dobsonian with tracking and argonavis-like systems.

I own the c-11 asgt set-up. It is great! I do visual only and the views are spectacular! The only modification I made to the set-up is using the Starizona Accessory Tray and the Celestron Vibration Pads. I can knock my ota and it settles in under 2 sec. When I use my Denk binos and rap the ota, it settles in less than 3 sec. Don't let the naysayers turn you off from this setup. I think it is the best deal for the money out there. Good luck.

If you use this set up for visual only use, you can get away with it. While it's not a match made in heaven, it will be okay if you make certain that everything is always carefully balanced. Be mindful that this OTA weighs 28 lbs, which is about 8 lbs. more weight than you should have on this mount. To be on the safe side, it may be a good idea to slow down the slew rate so that you don't tax the machine too much.

There is a member in our club, that has this set-up and he takes incredible images with it. Hopefully he will chime in.

Our club also has an imager with one; his images are fine (planetary only with a webcam). It's marginal at best, however, visually or for imaging.

I just use mine as advertised. I use the hc as I woukd for any mount. I never considered the slew rate. You'll never regret this package.
