$40 delivered at Amazon.com....maybe factory close-out?
I've heard that these waterproof/fog proof Bak-4 binoculars can be spectacular but only if you get a working pair? It appears the Chinese factory QC leaves a lot to be desired. I figure (under warranty) if I have to go through 2 or 3 pair, it might be worth it, at this price? Anyone familiar with this model?

C E L E S T R O N Outland LX 8x42
These are selling for around $125 on the internet.
At that price, for a roof prism, I would NOT expect very much.
Can you provide the amazon.com link for us?

The 8x42 Outland LX is a roof prism. The 8x40 Outland LX is a porro prism. I just did a search on Goggle search, "Celestron Outland LX 8x40", and the $40 Amazon.com link popped up.

O.K. Gotcha', Thanks
The 2008 Celestron catalog no longer shows the Outland LX porro prism.
Obviously it was discontinued.
Again, don't expect very much at this price range.

I would move up to the Nikon Action Extreme Series. More $$$ will assure more satisfaction. My Celestron Ultima DX 10x50s were a disappointment in some ways. Just don't know about Celestron binos these days. I've heard good things about the Nikon AEs on this site. And they're not over the top in price.

The Gods must have a sense of humor.....no QC problems with these binos at all!? Pretty good all-around binoculars.....bright & clear. Better to be lucky than good, right?

I took the $39.95/free shipping plunge and received a pair of these Amazon special-discount Outland LX 8x40 porros today. I admit I ordered them not expecting much, but surprisingly they seem to be just fine. I don't see any construction, alignment, focus, or prism problems with them at all. A few months ago I bought my wife a pair of Celestron's Outland LX 8x42 roof prisms, which turned out out be an outstanding buy for the $115 price. As far as I can see these porros are very close to the optical equal of those, but are a bit less operator friendly (these have fixed fold-down eyecups, focus is stiffer but manageable, strap is a little cheaper). However, they have the same nice rubber covering, are rain and dew-proof, they present a very bright and crisp image, and unless they simply fall apart or something, I think I'm going to be quite happy with them. I can even hand these to one of my grandkids without worrying about a disastrous outcome. Try that with your prize Fujicons!
Maybe like Gearhound I just got lucky. Your mileage may definitely vary!
