I just discovered the Magellan II hand control does NOT change the date automatically after midnight. I was wonder why at 12:15 AM the accuracy went down the tubes. I don't know why I check the time on the hand controll but I did and it did not change so I realized the computer thought it was 24 hrs ago. I changed the date and voila! accurate as ever again. Anyone know if this is a problem with the 497 hand computer as well? Don't care if it is, but just nice to know that the computer just did not fail. Mark

Mark,
I don't know about the 497 hand computer, but what version of the Magellan II firmware do you have installed? I may be wrong, but I was thinking that the latest version (K??) may have addressed this problem.
In any case, that is an excellent thing to know.

Did a quick search under "Magellan II" download on google....
The first seems a private site, but with a few insights and downloads.
http://www.beevo.com/download_page.htm
The second appears to be a Meade site. http://www.meade4m.com/downloads/download.html

Thanks, tried Beevo email and I said it does not exist. Meade4m says that page should not be there and they don't support the Magellan II anymore. Kind of hitting a wall here. I'm actually trying the Yahoo! user group and see if I get lucky there.

Mark, What version of firmware are you using? The latest version that Meade released was 2.5K, though you probably don't want that for your LX50 (I would suggest a 2.5x version, however). The 1.x versions had several bugs.
You might consider not upgrading at all, however, if you have a workaround to your situation (a case of, if it isn't broke, don't fix it). Since Mag II's aren't made anymore (and their firmware certainly isn't either), I would be very careful about performing firmware updates unless you are willing to accept a "bricked" box as a result.

And, also, I forgot to mention...
I haven't found any copies of Mag II firmware updates and I know mine are long gone (I checked). Sorry I couldn't help in that respect.

Bic, No problem. Very sad that this scope can not become a goto. I wonder how hard it is to remove from fork and put on the LXD55? Mark

It is very easy to remove. The bolts on the curved panels holding the scope to the fork are all you need to remove (I have mine on a CI700 with a Losmandy Gemini controller these days).

Bic, Do I have to do something to the holes in the side of the SCT after I take it off the fork mount? Thanks, Mark

I would replace them with stainless steel bolts (in fact, I would do that with all of the bolts you can, if you haven't).

Bic, So the holes are tiny that are present after removing from fork? Mark

As I recall, there actually shouldn't be bolt holes, per se, in the sheet metal body of the OTA, but rather bolt holes in the more substantive outer cover for the mirror cell assembly at the bottom of the OTA.
