Its listed on my local craigslist.
Just found out that its a white orion DSE dob the sonotube kind. made in 1997. comes with a telrad and a couple of EPs.
Is this a good scope? Would the mirrors have lost their coatings by now (11+ years)?
Ed Ting from ScopeReviews.com have these scopes under the "Category 3: Recommended" models as "Older Orion Dobs (DSE, etc)"
http://www.scopereviews.com./matrix.html
Anyone have had first hand experience with these scopes?
Thank you again.
My Original Post:
Anyone know about it or use it? Or can someone point me to a review?

12.5mm Plossel, 26mm Plossel, 4 Moon Filters 1.25"
And what should I expect to pay for the above setup?
Thanks for all your help.

Bhavdeep,
I don't know that particular scope but a modern GSO-made 8" dob (e.g., Zhumell) would run in the $350 range if memory serves.
I am familiar with a Telrad but not a "digital Telrad." The normal Telrad projects a red bulls eye onto a clear window. You look through the window and center the bulls eye on the object you're looking for. Does that match what's included with this kit?
The two eyepieces are pretty standard. A moon filter is typically dark grey to greenish. Are the other filters various colors? If so, they are probably simple color filters that can be useful on planets to help bring out certain features.
With the entire package, if in good shape, I might think of paying around $400 or so, maybe up to $425 on the high side. What are you being quoted?

Like Steve said, a current model runs $350. I think a Telrad runs <$50. I doubt that a 10 year old model is better than a new model, so I'd think that considering, it's used, that you'd not want to spend more than $300 (shipping included). I'd only expect the quality of the optics and parts to have gone up in the last 10 years, but I could be wrong.

The old Orion DSE had Discovery mirrors in them so that side of quality is high. I've heard that the rest of the components aren't as much up to modern standards, which is to be expected.
With deciding on price, think in terms of how you will probably want to ungrade the focuser soon after you get the scope.

Thanks for your replies. It turned out to be a 6" dob with a single vane secondary. I almost laughed when I looked at the focuser. "No harm intended to people who still use this scope". I don't know what its called but to focus with the ep in place, you have to rotate it in/out like a screw. No wonder I read that it too a long time to focus in/out in these scopes.

Hey don't laugh at helical focusers. They are great for getting very fine focus. Someone I knew who had built an extremely nice f/15 folder refractor (along with many other great scopes) always put helical focusers on them. He'd make them out of threaded plumbing pipe. When he was alive and working he designed optical systems for world class professional observatories.
