      #2608948 - 08/28/08 06:12 AM

Hello, i am new on this forum.

I will receive in two weeks my Paramount to remplace my big *BLEEP* of LX200 mount. I put on this the 14" Meade Tube with a TEC140.

How can i manage the ZIS pluged to this tube on the paramount with my computer and this bisque suite soft ??

Simple you just plug the micro-focuser into the focuser port on the Paramount. You will now be able to control the focuser from within TheSky and/or from CCDSoft. If you use CCDSoft the focuser can also be controlled by the autofocus routines @focus or @focus2.

If you want to use a program like MaxIm DL to control the focuser you are going to have to install an interface like the Lazyfocus controller that will give your PC control of the focuser.

The focuser works with a 12V (maxi speed)
So the paramount give this 12V on the focuser port ?

Hey Marcus !
i visit your web. I see that you have a sirus dome too!
beautiful installation !!!

My observatorry was finish since two month only,and i see quickly that the lx200 mount can not do lot of thing with the TEC140 on the 14" , That why i order the paramount.

All your observatory works with solar battery ?
You put a 12V->48V converter for your paramount ?
What is the brand of your meteo station ?

Laurent,

Yes the Paramount will provide the 12 volts needed to run ZIF. You really only have to just plug it in.

I used to have a 10" LX200GPS in my obs but complete and reliable remote startup was an issue. If the system became unparked or lost sync it was issue as the LX200GPS doesn't support homing the way the Paramount does.

When the system was first installed it was fully solar powered but there is to much stuff in there now. I would need to install bigger batteries and more solar panels.

The Paramount is powered from the 110 volt wall adapter that comes will the US version. But I will tell you, you can easily power the mount all night on a 17amp hour battery and 100 watt power inverter. I did a test using that equipment and the mount completed over 500+ slews during the course of the night.

The weather station is a Davis Intruments Vantage Pro system. That model is discontinued and Davis has replaced it with a Vantage Pro II.

Ok thank you !!!

I order this http://www.powerstream.com/dc12-48.htm
it's a converter 12V -> 48V 1.5A
but i can not test on this time !

I use less power than 12VC ->110VDC and after 110VDC->48VCC ?

I use the same for my Laptop it's a 12V -> 19V

Yes the 12 vdc to 48 vdc converter will be more efficient than a 120vac to 12 vdc invertor. The problem is I don't know if the 1.5 amp output is going to be enough. My power supply is not accessible so I can't tell you what it's output is.

As a minimum you are going to have to change the connector on the end, the Paramount uses a threaded power connector.

the Pramount EU power supply is 220 to 48V 1.2A
the convert is 1.5A continus, 2.0A peak

see the data from web Bisque :

Power Specifications
The Paramount ME's control system has the following power requirements (input).

60 watt supply (48V at 1.2 amps). During tracking, the mount draws 20 watts, and approximately 50 watts during maximum rate, dual-axis slews.

The power supply is listed as model number HUP80-18 from XPiQ, Inc., and comes with a standard grounded, 3-prong power cord.

The power supply is included with the mount, and is compatible with 90-264VAC power sources.

Replacement cost: $100.00 plus shipping.

See Power Inverters for details about powering all observing equipment in the field.

Sounds like once you swap out the power connector you should be OK. BTW, I really like your 2 story layout. I also wish I had a 3.5 meter model as it got very cramped on the south side when the Paramount was installed. My pier was offset to the south since the original scope was a fork mount on a wedge.

When my system was all solar powered I had a 12 vdc supply for my PC.
