I'd like to hear about how others have "cleanly" tucked or guided their wiring from the battery pack to the plug-in for the fan on Dobs.
Photos would be nice!

Hey Carol,
I needed some counter balance in the mirror cell anyway, so I just brought the battery closer to the fans. The idea was, if you're going to carry the extra weight, might as well make it useful. You can see it just under the fans in the picture. The bracket swings out so I can get to it. After trying to fabricate the bracket, I found a metal bookend, made a few bends and it was ready to go. I use zip ties and wire guides to fasten and run wires.

Hi Carol, If it's for your 16" it will be similar in configuration to my 12"Lb. Instead of the battery pack supplied with your scope (and mine) I routed it through a fused switch box. The 12V 7amp/h battery sits underneath the box on the side of the scope.

Hi Jay, thanks! Don't know if this would work with mine or not; but what a great setup!

John, Nice! I'm completely illiterate when it comes to wiring, etc. Would you explain what all I need? Purchase at Radio Shack?

Hello Carol
This isn't an answer to your question but it is another alternative. Do you have an electrical outlet in your observatory?
I dont have a permanent place to view and have to take my telescope for the evening outdoors every time I use it. The distance is short and a 25 foot extension cord is all I need. I don't like buying batteries or recharging them and a 300 MA/120 volt ac adapter works for me. When I'm done I roll up the extension cord and the converter with it. Not real neat and tidy but battery free.

I do have several outlets, however, no matter which I would use, the cord would an obstacle for me to trip on.
Good idea Kenny, & it looks tidy! Definitely would save on batteries also!

I hope I can explain it clearly for you!! All the components can be purchased from an Electronics Store. 1.A Box to put everything into, There are many types and sizes. The choice is yours. 2. A 2AG glass fuse holder (500ma glass fuse) + a switch. 3. 20cm's of hobby wire, to hook up the fuse and switch.

Carol, I know it just looks like a mess of wires in there, but the part you need is on the left. I'll make up a simple diagram to show you what goes where.
