Hello, I don't know how many people here has problem with orion telescope "online" I have two friends and it happened to me twice. yesterday I place an order online and today i found an email saying they cannot complet the transaction because the addresses no match when they already hold the money. the last year I had the same problem with them and when they send my stuff they charge my debit card twice( they fix the problem after two days) but i think they put "IN STOCK" But in reality they out of stock. Why they are not honest and say we're out of stock??? I think is much better place an order by phone and not online

Sorry to hear that this happened, I've always called them myself. Hmmm, maybe this should be in another section though instead of shop & swap...

orion normally has some really good costumer service. so this is odd. i had a problem happen to me called them and they sent me a replace and did 2 day shipping! so i have NO complaints with them!
and this will probably be moved someewhere else. S&S is for selling and trading!

With the quantity of sales they do, they will eventually make some errors. I've had nothing but good service from them, including returns. My only complaint was they wouldn't let me take a Vixen 4" Fluorite refractor outside the store to test it! (I think they correctly pegged me as a lookey-loo that day, having just bought a TV-85... )
Anyway, this sounds more like a glitch in their electronic ordering system. Somebody on this site has a quote at the bottom of their posts, that helped me come to terms with such phenomena:

I've never had a problem with them, and all my orders are online. Must be a fluke. It happens sometimes.

I recently placed an order with orion and had to cancel it because they couldn't match my billing address to the billing address my credit card company sent. This turned out to be an issue with my bank screwing up on my recent change of address. Orion customer service was excelent throughout my unpleasnt experinece though.

I had a problem with Orion when the phone number I entered on their site didn't match the one the CC company had on file. I think they're just being careful.

I find it reassuring that they're paying attention. Makes me more likely to place an order there.

Credit card companies frequently suspect a fraudulent transaction when a shipping address is different that the cardholder address. With two houses, I find this frequently. I don't mind though as they are lookiing out for my financial safety.

I always use the telephone to order stuff. A company's website is their catalog, so to speak. I call an operator so as to decrease the chance of identity theft AND ask "is this in stock?"
Sorry to hear you got the run around.

Sorry, got to disagree, pard. I've been dealin' with Orion since early in the Tim Giesler days--back in the 70s, that is--and I have always found them to be in the company of the best of the best when it comes to customer service. I've bought from 'em in person, by phone, by mail, and online, and found their service equally good in all venues.
Sounds to me like--it's kinda hard to understand what your original problem was--that the shipping address was different from the credit card address. They refused that transaction for YOUR protection.

I wish they caried more products because I would order EVERYTHING from them! I always go to their site first when I am looking for something. They are fast, and their website is accurate. When it says an item is in stock, IT IS in stock! I wont mention other websites that dont say its in stock or not until a week later when you get an email saying too bad!

I have noticed that they are slow to update there website with things being in or out of stock but that is a minor gripe and I always call and check on items and just use there online as a catalog.
I do love there customer service and have had nothing but good dealings with them , I would recomend them to anyone I know.

Actually, their website is pretty up to date as vendors of astronomy gear go. I've ordered from others things that were supposed to be in-stock only to find out latter that they were back ordered. That's not been my experience with Orion.
Their customer service is pretty good. I ordered my dob a couple weeks before they went on sale. When I called them, they honored the sale price and refunded me the difference. Not everyone would do that.

I placed an order "online" because speak english by phone is hard for me, I write and read much much better than speak, thats why I place all my orders "online" It's not the first or second time. I buy almost everything at orion "online" my shipping and billing address is the same but it happen when I spend more than $500 The problem was fixed when I call to cancel the order then someone call me saying everything is OK there is no problem with your debit card and the shipping is on the way. everybody is happy THE END.

I'm glad it all worked out in the end. Of all the astro-retailers I've dealt with online I would have to say that I have the most faith in Orion. I'm sure it was a frustrating experience, but you have to remember that Orion was just looking out for your best interests by not shipping to an address that they though didn't match the billing address. At the end of the day... that's a good thing. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this 'red flag' gets tripped more frequently when an overseas shipping address pops up. And I, for one, am grateful for that having been a victim of credit card fraud in the past.

I ordered a 40mm finder for my black 6" reflector. they emailed saying they only had the gray model in stock. They said the black one would be in stock in two weeks. I told them I would wait. Meantime, I put my name on a list to be notified when the black finder was again in stock. After two weeks a grey finder came in the mail. A day later I get an email telling me that the black finder was now in stock. The grey finder was optically very good and not wanting to have to ship the thing back from Cleveland to California, I repainted it black. Don't have a clue why they sent the gray model.
