Hi Folks,
I just wondered if any of you had any opinions on and / or experience with the Antares binoviewer kit which is currently on special offer here in the UK.
The deal looks attractive but if anyone could give me a little feedback, it would be most appreciated.
Here's the link;

Many thanks and best regards, Tel

The bvs in the link look alot like the Stellarvue bv3s.
http://www.stellarvue.com/bv.html
Scroll down the page to the bv3s.
You may wish to inquire about the clear aperture of the Antares bvs. The larger the ca the better. You can use longer fl eps without or less vignetting.
They also look alot like the Burgess 24s, with 24mm of clear aperture, self centering collets.
All of the chinese models are supposedly made in the same place, just to different specs, etc.
Hope this meager info may help....
Good viewing,
Dave

Hi Dave,
Yes, I'm sure you're right. I've just compared the two from your link and came to the same conclusion. There appears to be a slight difference in the weight, with one claiming 22oz. (presumably "loaded"), while the other records 17.5oz. (minus EPs) but then add a couple of standard Ploessls and I'm sure these weights become comparable. Certainly the exterior of each bino is virtually of the same design.
It therefore still looks an attractive deal !
Many thanks for your comments and that useful link, Best Regards, Tel

Tel, if the Antares = the SV BV3, then you might find this thread worthwhile, if you haven't already seen it.

Hi Fred,
Thanks for that thread link. There's a lot of very interesting comment and opinion there and from what I read, a generally positive response.
Sure the Denks etc. appear to be that much better, but as we say over here:
"Y'gets wot y'pays for"!
What you folks have given me therefore, sways me all the more towards a purchase here of this "reasonable" bino-system because I always weigh financial outlay against the conditions offered by my normal viewing location, (i.e. backyard on the outskirts of a small country town).
While this falls into the category of "not too bad", it certainly isn't the best and as such, in my opinion, will never warrant ultimate expenditure.
Once again, many thanks and best regards, Tel

Hi Edz,
That's quite a bit of new information to wade through which will obviously take a little time ! Meantime however, my very grateful thanks. I'm sure it will aid the decision making process !
I wasn't sure though, about your mention of Canadian Antares not being the same company as the UK "Version".
For what it's worth, I do know of more than one dealer selling "Antares" branded equipment in the UK using the same company logo as that displayed in Canada, and in fact I remember, (albeit vaguely now, so I can't think what it was specifically), buying an Antares item here in the UK from "ScopesnSkies" which actually stated on it that it was manufactured in Canada.
I would have thought therefore that if there were two different companies calling themselves Antares, copyright infringement would have surely prevented them using the same logo.
Just an academic point though as far as I'm concerned. The equipment quality level is, as I'm sure you'll agree, the burning issue here.
Once again, very many thanks for your help,
Best Regards, Tel

Agreed the quality is the issue.
If S&Ss is selling stuff marked canada then it must be Antares/Canada. BTW, these BVs are all from China, regardless where the selling company is located.
