i received a 3x meade barlow in the mail yesterday and gave it first light last night. seeing was average and below making forcus a struggle. i like the image scale but the excitement it generated gave me a heavy hand in processing; probably pushing too far.

203mm f4.9

later in the session i gave in to the temptation of adding my 2x barlow to the train despite the conditions. this was the first result.

370 frames.

as jupiter approached the trees i could see more wavering from the heat waves. i think this result is the best of the large ones.

~700 frames.

after fiddling around with all the data i think this represents the limit. i gotta say im pretty happy with this one for my first session of high f ratio.

Great stuff. Looks like that f ratio can certainly be supported if seeing allows it. Mighty big result you got!

That last jupo is pretty nice! ...now take more practice and then upgrade to DBK camera and you will see how good your new pics will look...

Great Images Indeed. Even with the below average seeing conditions everything looks very good.
Good detail in the different bands, as well as distinguishing the different bands.

Hey looks great! I can't wait for that seeing to clear up for you! I'm still waiting for the remnants of TS Faye to clear out!

Beautiful photos! As I scrolled down the page each composite was better than the one before. There is something magical about imaging at long Focal ratios. If you resize it to 75% or 50% and play with the brightness and contrast a little it may improve even further? Take it easy, Dan

PS: Your new 8" reflector is definitely a good one!

thanks for the comments folks. i was really excited to get some recognizable images. its a whole new ball game at this image scale but im having fun trying to get it down.

one thing i realized is i didnt collimate that night. after using a refractor almost exclusively for the past year ive become spoiled by just throwing the scope out and being ready to go in 20mins. ill have to add a few things to my routine.

Even though the images are soft, which I like (no graininess), the amount of underlying detail is really incredible, congrats! I usually do not reply twice to a posting but I just couldn't help myself. Cheers, Dan

PS: I can't wait to see some lunar pics.
