The NY Times(nytimes.com) business section has an article about Tucson's measures to reduce light pollution - "Helping the Stars Take Back the Night" by Joe Sharkey.
I don't know if it can be viewed without registering with the Times website. Registration is free.

Phil Harrington did a masters-thesis on municiple 'non light polutting exterior lighting hardware. He has a good 'light-pollution awareness/ offered solutions' movement going on LongIsland,NY.
I E-mailed Phil to look at the: Sunday Buisness, page 4, NYTimes 8/31/08 top half page article.
The article metions start of 'darksky movement', keypeople now advocating for energy-saving/ darksky protecting/ light-pollution abateing exterior municiple and building lighting hardware 'now existing in the marketplace', people 'hopeing to implement this 'buisness nitche', etc. ...with photographs too!

Thanks for the info, Charlie. I certainly hope that light pollution is gaining public awareness. Even though we enacted tough legislation in my town of Brookhaven here on Long Island in 2006, and tightened it even further in December 2007, it's going to be difficult to enforce it. Hopefully, articles such as this will raise people's awareness.
