I get my very first scope on Saturday afternoon. I'm picking my new C8-SGT up at about 2 or 3 o'clock. Notice how it's relatively cloudy free until almost exactly when I get my scope and then it goes from blue to completely clouded over and it’s supposed to stay like that until at least Wednesday. DARN NEW SCOPE CURSE!!!!

Curse? more like every time you get a new item or think of a great new idea....the proverbial controllers in the other realm tweak their systems to make sure we don't get what we want.
Then they all sit there laughing at us drinking coffee.
I have learned to accept the randomness of the sky conditions, that why even if its a clouded up sky, I wouldn't mind working on some ATM project indoors. I just built myself an observing chair in a few nights when the sky was too cloudy outside.

Sorry. I think I'm responsible for The Curse that southern New England is experiencing right now.
The clouds started rolling in last night in giddy anticipation of the motor drive and finder that FedEx is delivering today.

Well I am glad that I live in a place with a pretty high percentage of cloud-free days per year. To bad that most of the time when there are no clouds in the winter it's -30 out.

I have made my 2 cents comments about this curse before; the genie is in the box--when you open the carton it pops out and devours your clear sky. Now there has got to be a solution to this. All of you CNers are very intelligent so lete get crackin. Should we tell the vender to disquise the box with some non-astronomical logo--like "Barfo's Dog Food"; will something along this line of reasoning help?

Nope, sorry. Whatever higher power it is that clouds over our clear skies the moment we get something new is too powerful and all knowing to be fooled by us mere telescope loving mortals.

Well, I can definitely confirm that the curse exists and not just for a new scope, but for accessories as well. I got my red dot finder on Wednesday. Had the luxury of quickly testing it the same night.
Woke up Thursday and it's cloudy as hell with two cold fronts moving in and cloudy and cold weather predicted till the middle of next week.

Well I played an excellent round of golf this morning with perfectly clear skies, went and picked up the scope and still perfectly clear skies. Then as I was putting everything together I could see the storm clouds in the distance and by the time it was all put together I only had it outside for 5 minutes to check it out before it started raining. I hate the curse.

I think I've single-handedly pulled Arizona out of a 15 year drought by buying a new scope each summer for the last 3 years. We've had the 3 wettest summers I've ever seen in my almost 40 years.

Well, it seems as if the curse really hates me. It caused snow on the first day of Spring. Around here snow on the mountains is the exception to the rule, so it's a pretty amazing event.
I shudder to think what will happy once I've saved up enough, and bought my second scope!

I bought a new rucksack for my telescope and it has rained everynight bar about 5 nights since - that was over 3 months ago. Got a good day/night on friday and when I got my telescope out I found it wasn't working properly - is that a counter curse!?
