Hello, I was examining the Ring nebula, and I captured the faint IC 1296, quite an acomplishment, it was with my 12", and it had low surface brightness, and was very faint, no central brightening, just a tiny faint fuzz with no detail, and could be held continuously with averted vision...clear skies

What kind of skies and conditions were you under when you made this observation? It's not in the S&T Pocket Atlas so it's got to be fainter than 11.5 and out of my reach in my skies but I'm thinking of trying it at BFSP.

The galaxy is probably around 14th magnitude or so (the photographic magnitude is 14.8). It is a challenge in a 12 inch even under dark skies. It was nice at the Nebraska Star Party, but we were using a 25 inch f/5 Obsession, so we had aperture to spare. Clear skies to you.

Good job, this galaxy is very difficult for a 12"! I think it is about 14.5-15mag.
