Hey everyone!
My friend has the Webb Society Deep-sky Observer's Handbook, all 7 volumes, and they are such great books. Although, he won't let me have them.
I have a hard time fining them, seeing is how the are old, but does anyone know of books just like them??
I like the fact that they describe different objects in how they appear in different size scopes. That's what I'm looking for..
I've done some searching, but not sure how to, or fine what I'm looking for..
The best I've come across was the The Night Sky Observer's Guide, both volumes..
Anyone have some input??

The Webb books sometime show up in auctions and used book stores-try Amazon.com and AbeBooks. The three Night Sky Observer's Guides appears to be the updated option.

there are 8 volumes... number 8 is Variable Stars... you can get vol# 4, 6, 7, and 8 from the Web Society for $4 each... the rest can be found on Amazon... be careful with vol 1, Double Stars, there is a second edition.

Here is the web page for Webb Society Handbooks & Observing Guides. They list vols. 1-5 of the Observation Handbooks as "out of print." There were several copies of all volumes on the used market several months ago. Now, the pickings are not as plentiful. Yes, I agree that the Webb Observation Handbooks are unique. My copies sit on the shelf between Burnham's and NSOG.

I spent the day at work thinking how we have not answered your question. So, with my limited knowledge, I will give it try.
First, the type of writing you are asking about is called observation guidebook, observation handbook, or simply observing report. Ever since people began to stargaze they probably have sought means to record their observations--whether on paper, computer, papyrus, or stone. So there probably have been thousands of such publications over the centuries.
In addition to the two series you mentioned in your original post, two books come to mind that describe how deep-sky objects appear with different instruments. Harrington, Philip S. Star Watch: The Amateur Astronomer's Guide to Finding, Observing, and Learning about over 125 Celesgtrial Objects. (Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley & Sons, 2003).
Luginbuhl, Christian B. and Brian A. Skiff. Observing Handbook and Catalogue of Deep-Sky Objects. (New York: Cambridge University Press, 1990). I am sure there are many more out there.
. . .
Another search approach might be to look for observing logs published on the internet by amateur astronomers. Here are three out of hundreds of links on the internet. . . .
Of course, the fun begins when you record your own observing reports in whatever format suits your style.
I hope this helps.

I got the full set used off Amazon. For the cost including shipping I'm not too happy with them, with the old typewritten format. Maybe when I get around to using them I'll feel differently.

Hmm. The typewritten format is one of the things that appeals to me (same with Burnham's). It sort of gives me that connection to a simpler time, I guess. These guys aren't technologists; they're just old-fashioned observers. Like me.

Rick--
I am glad to hear that you completed your set of Webb handbooks.
I refer to my Webb set quite frequently. Recently I purchased a telescope. The scope specs for the observations and sketches in the Webb handbooks helped me select a scope size for the objects I intend to observe.
And yes, I agree with you--the typewriter font adds much.
