New Company born from cloudy nights
      #2620402 - 09/03/08 12:40 AM

I was reading a thread on Cloudy Nights titled “Revolutionary new way to focus” when I decided to make one of the diffraction spike focus masks. I posted the results and how I made the mask. Next thing you know I’m getting PM’s and posts asking if I will make masks for other people. I’m not much on retail, so I asked for one other Cloudy Nights members to help with taking orders, John Wunderlin. He already had a company set up to take phone and internet orders, plus he has everything to take credit cards. Most people will want to make their own mask, but still a lot of amateur astronomers don’t have the resources to make the focus mask. So we have formed www.Spike-a.com to provide a high quality aluminum focus mask. The mask is constructed of .090 thick 3003 alloy aluminum and is anodized black. The mask has three tabs with nylon thumbscrews to attach the mask to the end of the telescope tube or dew shield.
Both John and I are listed as Vendors, but we still are just cloudy night members that want to help other members enjoy this hobby.
Now here is the best part! I get to buy new scopes, cameras, and all types of new toys. I just tell my wife that the company needs this stuff for research. : Okay, maybe the IRS will be more understanding.
