And one of GOMOC on a sunny summer day. Looking across the BBQ area and scope fields.
Rob, GET OFF THE DANG ROOF!
I wanted to climb the 12x12 pitch roof and get a better image but I just don't like climbing straight up.
I snuck out my daughters window and clumb over onto the garage roof. It's the best aerial image I could get on the spur of the moment......

Yepers....They don't have any current images from the last two years that show the clearing for the scope fields.
I want to see an image with the clearing done.....
None exists yet......
Thanks for posting that image.....

Okay, fine Steph, here's a link, View aerial image from Google Maps
Happy now?
If/when Google updates their imagery, this link will show it. I know the image of my house was updated recently, because it now shows the latest cars in the driveway.

Well we had the last scheduled star party at GOMOC and boy was it one of the et ever.
We had a bit of puffy clouds in the morning and it was clearing quick. Folks started showing up for the shooting part at about noon.(That was Walt).
We finished setting up the video camera and telophoto lens system for monitoring the targets, and got all the targets in place. My father-n-law brought hisblack powder by and we had fun...till his powder got wet and he had to go get a ball extracting rod so he could pull the lead ball out and then he and walt went into the shop and cleaned out the barral and opened up the priming port that was clogged.
We threw a lot of lead down the range...and Walts little tiny pocket 22 pistol was the loudest little hing.
Kerry showed up just when we were getting done with the black powder and he got to shoot off one too.
I think it was his first time with black powder.
Any way he and cindy set up thier air rifle targets and stands over on the deck behind my office and shot there.
Kerry built this carneval looking target holder made from aluminum pipes.....it was cool.
Here are some pix of the air rifle shooting.
Kerry an Walt hard at it.....killing plastic Jaba heads and golf balls.

Now don't be mistaken.....Cindy can shoot...
Here she is posing after the kill.
She's shooting a highly modified weapon.....like the kind covert assassins use....
It was a sweet weapon.....all of Kerry's weapons were sweet.

So did y'all get some viewing in after the shootin'? (More talk here about the latter than the former... )

I'm not done!
I'm sure other folks will pipe in when they are good-n-ready.
The viewing Saturday night was one of the best nights..realy.
It kept getting darker and darker. The doulbe cluster was by far an easy naked eye object...so was andromeda and I could see M13 unaided. Some of the larger dobs really pulled in the views. I had lots of friends stop by who had never really looked through a telescope before and who were blown away with what they saw. The just jumped from scope to scope while all the amateur astronomers showed them the night sky. Green laser pointers were a vital tool to aid in showing the young ones where things were in the sky.
We enjoyed a great view while the ISS passed over head as well......it was pretty thrilling.
I really wanted this last party to go out with a bang and we were not let down.....It was an awesome night.
I appreciate all who attended and am sorry for them who couldn't come.
Vickie(my wife) was a gracious host and made sure we all had hot corn on the cob(earier...for lunch)...mmmmmm
I'll wait for others to comment before I finish.

I also wanted to thank Gregg Lobdell and his wife for coming down to visit from the Seattle area. He got to do a bit of viewing before he had to run and attend to a previous engagement.
You're welcome any time Gregg. Thanks for thinking of us and stopping by.

Great report, Rob! And so glad all turned out well. Looks like you have a perfect place for star parties there. Good for you!

Yeah...Walt is pretty inventive. He used it like that over on the other side where we were shooting *real* guns(hee hee). It works great cuz you can elevate it for your stance. He loved it.
Yes...we are very happy about our Observing Center. We try to encorporate as much fun in it as we can. The shooting and archary has been added this year. I didn't think so many had guns they wanted to shoot. It's sweet...cuz a great day of shooting turns into a great night of viewing.
While the air rifle folks were on the Deck...the *live* fire boys were over shooting about 50 ft to their West.
Only problem is, everyone was shooting over the horseshoe pits...so that activity had to be shut down.
It was great...some folks were shooting air rifles..some, live ammo.....Some setting up their scopes...and still others(me) were working in the machine shop working on the focuser for my 10"f/16.
The only thing we didn't do was actually have a BBQ... Walt did bring out his home roasted coffee and he made us a pot of the most wonderful coffee on the planet.....
Brad brought out some swap-n-shop stuff we all picked through and an EP lend-n-loan was put into effect by Kerry. I got to borrow some sweet EP's to test in the 6"f/15.
OH......Oh.....And Kerry Donated to the cause a sweet 60mm f/17(I think) refractor I plan on using as the spotter for my new 10"f/16. It is sweet and greatly appreciated.
I made out like a banche........So much love and friendship..I can hardly believe it.
I know you folks have a very similar situation going on over there as well, and am very impressed with your parties too.
Thanks for the kind words. Clear skies this weekend..

Thanks again Rob! You are a great astro host for sure.
Rob and Walt were having a blast shooting. The only problem was that I told Rob the gun shoots a little to the left and a little low...NOT THAT MUCH ROB!
