Here are the processed pics from this afternoon. Not very steady seeing, but at least the cloud held off long enough to get a high number of frames for each shot. A tricky pair of proms to image as one was very bright while the other was extremely faint so I had to overexpose the bright one a little to get some detail showing up in the wide hedgerow prom to its left. I hope this whopper is related to a good active region coming round the limb - noticed the GOES XRay graphs were jumping a bit today also! Mark

I think part of it is Solmax's snake from yesterday, but it has another large prom to the left of it now. Looks huge on the laptop screen in any case.

Mark,
THANK YOU for the heads-up!
As it happens, gridlocked traffic has delayed my commute into work; I was waiting out the worst of rush hour when I saw your post.
To the extent that conditions allow (slightly hazy skies, but Sunny, and already warm & humid enough to fog my eyepieces), this prom complex is GREAT! Much of its fine structure is quite faint and it's a struggle to see it through the haze. I unstacked my Lunt 60/50 to brighten the proms a bit, and a little patience (and sweating) has rewarded me with some moments of good views.
There's another, brighter prom to the west; I might have initially overlookd your big faint guy were it not for your report. Heck, it would likely have been late afternoon before I viewed it today, if at all.
Thanks!
Jim
....now, gotta push on in to work...

Great pics Mark!
The sun was only out, albeit briefly, when I was at work today so never got a chance to look through the scope at it. Fingers crossed I get a chance to view it tomorrow. The weather in the UK is sssooooo depressing at the moment and forecasts indicate nothing better to come either. Must be good for cloud watchers though!

Great follow-up photos!
And thanks again for the heads-up....my Lunt likely wouldn't have come out of its case today except for you.

Stunning images. With a PST, is this what you see through the eyepiece?

Thanks all! What a contrast today is - very heavy rain and some serious flooding here in Wales.
Davidgojr - The full disk image, although greatly magnified, is not far off what you would see through the PST on a day with good seeing. The whole image in the eyepiece is red though rather than the artificial colouring I have applied.
You generally would not see the magnified proms in as much detail via the PST - only photography can bring out that level of detail and preferably using a video CCD camera so that you can stack lots of frames to defeat the average seeing conditions through our atmosphere.
