Got out for a second night last weekend.
Managed to get clear skies, above average transparency and seeing conditions.
There are so many stars in this image that when I resized it to fit within forum guideleines, I had to bring my .jpg compression quality all the way down to 20%. The image quality is therefore not the best in this post.
The Cocoon Nebula overlaps the dark nebula Barnard 168 in this widefield. The cocoon itself is only 12' in apparent size and has a low surface brightness which makes it difficult to get alot of detail with my 80mm scope.
Details: Date: September 1, 2008 Scope: Skywatcher ED80 f/7.5, guided Camera: Canon 300D moddified Image: 22 x 4min subs, ISO800, darks, no flats Processing: Stacked in DSS, processed in PS CS
My canon definitely needs a sensor cleaning. I had a heck of a time processing with no flats and all of the dust donuts.
Thanks for looking.

Nice shot -- you sure do have a lot of stars in the background field.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Mr T, I agree about the flats. I wish that I would have taken them the next morning. My equipment was still setup, I just forgot.
The tiff looks a lot better IMHO than this overcompressed jpg but the image definitely also needs some more exposure time.

Thanks Mr T.
I have seen plans for building light boxes but have never undertaken the task.
I image from a backyard observatory and it would be easy for me just to leave my camera attached until the next morning and then take the flats. I just have gotten into the mode of being lazy about flats.
