How about a LW alt-az for a SV-102?
      #2624415 - 09/04/08 08:41 PM

I don't want to hijack the 80mm thread but I have the same question for a SV-102ED which weighs about 10 kbs. I need a lightweight alt-az mount and also need to be well under $500. I will likely buy used. The Orion versago is on sale for $239 and is awful tempting. But will it handle 10+ lbs? Any other recommendations? Thanks.

John

I would recommend the Voyager AltAz mount. I use it on my TSA102 and the slow motion control is very good. If you find the existing tripod a bit too short, the tripod for the Celesctron CG-5 eq. mount with 2-inch stainless steel leg will also fit.
Here is one of the place where you can get one

Nice looking setup! Yes. I saw this mount as well and for not much more money, it looks like a very good candidate. I always use a chair when observing so th etripod height is not that critical for me. My chair is adjustable and can go very low to the ground.

The Versa-Go is rated to 15lbs, and has the aluminum legs, so it might be a bit shaky with a 102mm. Might.

I'm very happy with my 102ED on a Vixen Porta with wooden legs. It's very stable and I love the slo mo controls.

I had been consider the Astrovue mount for my EON 120 or 180MCT, but seeing a 100ED on it makes it look too light weight for those OTAs. (15lb naked)

I consider any triplet APO over 6" to be an insane objective.

Ha ha, good one!
Never even made the connection myself.
You'd have to be insanely rich to buy an apo triplet over 6" anyway.
