I just bought Orion EON 80mm scope and ADM mini-dovetail to be mounted on C-11 and Atlas EQ-G mount. Without the guide scope, I already used three 11 pounds counter weights. How much more counter weight do you think I need to add or is it too much for Atlas EQ-G to handle?

Orion Short Tube 80mm with ADM mini-dovetail and clam shell tube rings
Orion StarShoot Pro CCD camera
Orion StarShoot Auto Guider
Nagler 31mm
Ethos 13mm and 8 mm
2" William Optics diagonal
Atlas EQ-G with 1" CW shaft from Telescope Stability Systems, ADM Losmandy saddle.

I need four on my shorter-armed Sirius mount just to balance the C11. Be careful with your balancing and you should be fine by adding a fourth. But this really looks to be at the limit for the mount.

From looking at the moment arms in your picture, I'd say you need almost twice as much in extra counterweight as that 80mm scope weighs.

Peter,
Go to Robin Casady's web site. Besides producing some super cool astro goodies, he shows you how to calculate the counterweights.

Take care,

I always prefer a longer arm to more weight.

Is there a longer arm available for Atlas EQ-G mounts? Thicker arm would be nice to reduce flexure.
Thanks, Peter

ScopeStuff used to have a toe weight. You thread it to the bottom of the arm in place of the end cap. I think it weighed a little less and it may work if your needs are in between weights. I was just on their sit but I could not find it.
