I was pooped already but when I saw the Eagle again, I sat for a bit looking at the detail. I wanted to study it for a sketch time with Linda after Tropical Storm Hanna finishes going up the coast that will bring clear skies. I figured it was a crying shame not to sketch a little bit, so I decided to do a big (for me) sketch on rough dark blue construction paper. Like I do sometimes, I labeled sections of the my impressions of sections of color and shadow. The star field is very incomplete, the boundaries are not accurate, but it was still fun to grab the over-arching features with this relatively narrow field of view. When we do it together, we will use a "faster" scope and reach out a little further. I pretended like it was topography...darks are valleys and the light colors are higher terrain. Of course, it's ridiculous and does not translate to stellar clouds in back of or in front of star light, but it all still made me smile. Two parts to the sketch since I could not scan the whole thing. Roland

Roland,
I definitely like this sketch and the colors you used to bring the Eagle to life. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Roland,
It's a beautiful sketch and it deserves to be looked at in one piece.
I hope you don't mind that I took the liberty to stich the two halves together?

Thanks Rony. Hate to be REALLY DUMB, but I don't know how to put them together. Please instruct this student...and thanks again for the effort. Roland

Roland,
Glad you like it.
Nothing fancy to do actually:
I opened a new bitmap in Paint Shop Pro, large enough to encompass the two sketches. Then I imported these sketches as separate objects onto the bitmap. I dragged these objects along until they overlapped. Then I combined them with the background. Then I cropped the image to the color sketch, and voilą.

Roland,
A beautiful and colorful rendering of the Eagle nebula. And Rony did a great stitching job to blend it all into one. We all benefit when we can help each other out.

Roland,
A beautiful and well executed rendering of the Eagle Nebula (M16). The nebula appears to glow in your observation. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Thanks, fellow sketchers. Funny how naming stuff causes one to remember parts of an object. I can still see the faint island down on the right and the overlook in the middle. It started as a bit of humor, but in the review and naming process, I remember more. Roland
