Re: Asterism Lists??? new [Re: gubbenimanen]

I have checked out the 1,000+ asterism list from Deep Sky Hunters and find it to be a valuable asset in determining if an observed asterism is new or not. This list uses the brightest star of the group as an identifier, its discoverer, R.A./Dec.,and size. If anyone is looking for new groups to add to this "official" list, the candidate can be checked against the list to see if it has already been named.

If anyone is interested in obtaining the list, I can e-mail it to them via a PM with your e-mail address.

Thanks again to all who have helped me search for such a list and the many tips on links to asterism sites.

As a added info for anyone looking for a good asterism list, visit the Saguaro Astronomy Club site on the web and their list of 110 objects can be downloaded from the download page. For the average observer, it's the best for naked eye, bino and scope use. Mr Q

Mr Q, et al;

As the manager of the SAC list, I thank you. I hope that all the users enjoy themselves. I have certainly enjoyed observing the list. I am almost done. Once I have finished, I will look at posting the list and my observations. Maybe early next year.

Enjoy;
Steve Coe
