Im thinking of getting one of these for my new PST. they use eight AA batteriues. Does anyone know how long roughly they would last. Can you use an external power source such as a 12 volt batter. Thanks

If it's the same as the Meade DS mounts then 16 hrs of continuous tracking use on average. Less if lots of GOTO used (not frequent in daylight for the sun)... Also, less battery life in the very cold. The mount also works at its best with regulated power, so YES, the DS mounts can be powered by 12V DC.
I counldn't find a specific DS mounted Coronado on Meade's website so I am assuming that you are going to use Meade DS mount from another refractor or scope?

Batteries are probably not a big problem with this mount. I question, however, why you are willing to spend at least $200 on a mount/tripod which can only be used with one telescope? The price of the Celestron goto CG5 is now about $500 and will easily handle the PST. It will then do double duty on a host of conventional and far heavier telescopes used under dark skies.

I just got the Coronado (Meade) DS mount for my PST. I would like to know what 110VAC>12 VDC power supply to use.

I have two DS-2000 mounts and I've found they work quite well. One is from my DSX-90 which has a generic mounting plate that's perfect for my PST. The PST is so light and my solar observing sessions tend to be short so the 8 AA batteries work fairly well, but the AutoStar really hums when it has a nice stable power supply so I like to use a jumpstart battery most of the time.
