My first M45 new
      #2623558 - 09/04/08 01:23 PM Attachment (39 downloads)

Here is my first attempt at M45 Pleadies.
I managed to get some of that nice whispy frosty nebulosity with about 15 minutes total exposure.
I am going to reshoot this one when it gets a little higher earlier in the morning and gets out away from the LP over rochester. Hopefully I can get about 30 minutes total on it with some 5 minute subs to bring out that "frosty blue" look !

Nice start, always exciting to get some of the wisps. If anything I'd say your image is a little too blue. One of the smaller stars in the Pleiadies is orange (one of that double star in the center of the dipper-like bucket). This target strongly favors the longest exposure you can possibly take (LP and/or mount limited) to get the most detail. The nebulosity is really faint. I did a test shot of M45 on Tuesday night that was 4 minutes at f/2.8 and ISO 1600. That would be equivalent to a 16 minute exposure with a f/5.6 scope.

Thanks guys !

Yeah I am planning on re-shooting this next clear night with as long a sub as possible.
After I am setup and done the polar align utility on my CG-5 I can do about 5 minutes max before getting egg shaped stars.
I am going to try to get 20 or 30 5 minute subs on this to see what can be pulled out.

Nice shot, for just 15 minutes. This shot is 2 or 3 orders of magnitude better than my first M45.
