Scetched this last night and posted in "Beginners".
"Perfessor" suggested I post it here. He said I need to darken it up a bit but thats just about all the contrast I can see.

Rob, Very nice first sketch. You chose a great target for sketching. You certainly captured some detail at 155x.

Rob,
Good for you for trying your hand at sketching! Hopefully you found it enjoyable.
I think that is a very good job for your first sketch of the King of Planets and its moons. Hopefully you will continue sketching and post your results here.
I took the liberty of cleaning up your sketch a bit, I hope you don't mind and I also hope you like it, even if it was done fairly quickly:

Hi Wade
I like what you did. I haven't sketched anything In 25 years and it was enjoyable to have a subject like Jupiter. It took along time to see the smaller band under the SEB. It's funny how over time you can add the moments of clear seeing to make a composite.

Don't wait another 25 years before doing another sketch. I thought it looked just fine. Now get out there with your pencil & pad and start sketching!

Thank you. But in my honest opinion, take a look at some of the sketches by Frank5817, Rony & Rich Handy...talk about impressive!

Good for you! I too waited since I was a sophomore in high school in 1970 when Mars was on a close approach and I only had my first telescope then, a 60mm Tasco, until I began serious sketching as Mars neared again in 2003 ~ 2005.
You cannot know what you are missing until you commit to doing more of this. You will [see] that it is like aquiring a new set of eyes again. The sketching and artistic process will show you things you never thought possible.
Nice of Wade to contrast up your sketch. You definitely were seeing the double-belt-like appearance of the SEB as you indicatd here in your sketch. Yes, the CN forums are a great learning and communication venue as more discover this most resourceful site.
I'll look forward to seeing more sketching from you,
Mark

Rob,
An excellent observation of Jupiter showing a good amount of detail. You will notice more detail over the planet as your eye gains experience observing low-contrast features. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

I agree with the other comments. It's a fun planet to sketch with the moons...and your first one is just great. Roland

Hi Rob, glad you made it!

This is absolutely true, and one of the reasons I enjoy sketching. It brings many details up to the level of awareness. In my latest sketch opf Petavius, I only started to see the network of light and dark rilles after I'd been working for half an hour on it!
Keep up the good work.

Hi Rob, as a first time contributor to the sketching forum let me say well done for your jupiter observation. I admire everyone who record in a sketch what they are seeing in the eyepiece, keep them coming!
regards mike
