dobservatory just for scope stuff?
      #2647354 - 09/17/08 10:54 AM

Dob Users:

I am planning on building an 8x8 with a hinged roof that will open from the outside, with a wall height of 3 or 3.5 feet. Does anyone else have this type of setup where a low wall height it "required".

Charles; my Dobservatory has 3 ft. high walls, with one drop-down. It's a ROR, 10X10'

This issue was a roadblock when I started to design it. The scope I had when I decided to build one was a 5" refractor, and there is a considerable usable height difference between the two scopes. Thank You Carol.

Carol,

Do you have more pictures of your observatory showing the four sides both outside and inside so one can get a better idea of its construction?

Thanks

Dobservatories are unique in that they require lower walls but don't need a pier, which can open up other (less expensive) possibilities than your standard dome or roll off roof.
Here is a link to the construction of my dobservatory - by way of disclaimer "I am not a handyman - nor have I played one on television"

Carol,

Your observatory looks superb in the pictures - and what a location! Thanks for posting. I'm guessing that the dangly thing on the wall is a dream catcher?

Cheers,

Keith

Keith, Thanks! Yes indeed, that is a Dreamcatcher made & given to me by one of our very own CN'rs Carol Widger! The Feather with beaded work was also a gift from Dee, a fellow Mod. The wooden sign was also a gift from CN'r Mike Lewis!

These gifts are so appreciated & have a much honored place in the DreamCatcher!
