My 2005-vintage Autostar handbox (RCX) has developed a strange gremlin. And I don't mean those cute smiley-face thangs...
After about 20-30 minutes into an observing session, the scope base emits a faint "tick" and immediately the handbox display lights up brilliant red. So bright that I can't see any numbers or letters. But if I tilt the display to almost a 90 degree angle I can just make out what the display reads, and then if I go to the Utilities menu I can change the display brightness and contrast back to a decent level, where it stays until I turn off the scope.
This problem has been repeating virtually every viewing session for a while now.
Do y'all think that the problem originates in the handbox itself, or (gulp ) in the scope's computer??

Never mind, y'all - I fixed the problem by replacing the old wired handbox with the latest wire-less version!
Works great!
