Educating perfessor new
      #2648341 - 09/17/08 08:00 PM

Due to weather and other circumstances, I haven't gotten much sketching in lately. I decided I needed to go for smaller targets, and think of them as exercises, or studies.

Bianchini is a small crater at the north end of Sinus Iridium - at the feet of the Moon Maiden, as it were. In fact, she was in fine form that night, her profile clear and her tresses billowing out behind her. But I knew it was too big a target for me, so I went for the smaller target. In particular, I feel I have a hard time rendering rough terrain - "rumplety" stuff. Plenty of that around!

Petavius offered more good material. At the eyepiece, I wasn't happy with the drawing. But once I got inside, it looked better than I thought. The western wall (on the right) ended up looking darker in the drawing that through the scope, but the rough terracing came out pretty well I thought.

Thanks for looking!

Tom,

Very nice to see you back with crater sketches. Both of these sketches are excellent and easily recognisable. You shaded both of them beautifully to get the proper appearance of depth and the upward bulge of Petavius is expertly done. So nice that you included crater Wrottesley with Petavius.

Frank

Tom,

Very nice indeed! I too thought you did a fine job with the shading. Nice job.

Tom,

Very nice observations of Bianchini and Petavius. You have captured the appearance of these craters accurately. The terraced walls of Petavius and shadows over both are well rendered. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Carlos
