I need some ideas on how to do this. I have my dads old C8 (pic below) circa 1988-1989 its a fork mounted celestron 8" SCT The motor in the base is shot and I don't really want to fix it. The optics are just fine, so what I want to do is mount it to a Celestron CG-5
What would be the best way to do this? I know the dovetail that celestron sales doesn't fit this old of an model (if I'm wrong let me know) and I looked at the drilled holes on the outside and they don't good "strong enough" to hold a mount, I could be wrong. and the drilled holes that hold the fork mount don't have a drilled hole on the front ring of the scope. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Use a Losmandy "D" plate on the telescope. this plate, IIRC, fits all the older Celestron and Meade 8 inch SCTs and comes with the radious blocks and screws. Get a matching saddle plate from ADM that goes on the CG5 mount.
One of several ways to do it.

I would think that tube rings normally used for a newtonian could be used in this case.

I have the same scope and used a Losmandy D plate to mount it on my G11.

Looking at the first picture, I see what looks like two screws in the rear and one in the front cell. This is where you will need to mount a dovetail. The threads will be plenty strong unless they have been damaged in some way. Have a look at scopestuff, ADM accessories, or losmandy for the appropriate hardware. Measure the distance between the rear cell screws and you should know what version of the dovetail you will need.

Both of those pieces should get you there. Another option is the VC8 dovetail from ADM Accessories. His stuff is top notch quality and the total price will be a bit cheaper than the Losmandy setup. If you tell him what kind of scope, he'll include the correct radius blocks/screws. I got the ADM one myself.
