LX200 GPS Question
      #2652017 - 09/19/08 04:49 PM

I was replacing my plastic drive gears with new "Bucks Gears" last night and I noticed on the bottom drive there is a sensor which seems to monitor a disc. When this disc is rotated I found what appeared to be a “magnet" or something. I was wondering what this is? Also the "Magnet" touches the sensors when it moves past the sensors. Is this correct or should there be some clearance. Thanks for your time

Can you do a pic of it? It shouldn't touch, although it may look REAL CLOSE... This is a position sensor so the drive knows the position of the worm and gear.

If it has come loose, then you'll need to get it re-secured.

After re-reading my post it appears I have mislead you. The sensor is not located on the drive motor assembly it is next to the drive assembly. It seems to monitor the rotation of the scope. There appears to be a large magnet that slips between two or three sensors. The "magnet" is tight and does make contact with the two or three sensors I refer to. What is this sensor and is it correct to contact the sensors??????

I'll post a pic... Can you take it and draw a pointer to what you're referring to?

Thanks for the pic. It is the sensor located at the tip of the arrow.

Well again, NOTHING should "Touch"... There should be a very slight clearance.

If you can see a way to adjust this (Screws), then give it a try.. Just be careful not to break any connectors or wires.
