Well, I cannot express my sincere thanks to Nightfly for getting me thru this nightmare with my scanner. It seems to be resolved now. RF signals from the nearby computer monitors - DSL and wireless stuff interfered with the scanning signal.
Here is an attempt on the Scutum star cloud area. It will need a re-work down the road as I get better with PS now that I have a good scan to work with. The scan was done on my Mac - so I don't know how it will look on your monitor. Mac is well calibrated - for my eyes at least. The light dome from a small town in the south caused the glow in the centre of the image.
