I bought the Astrosystems Opticare kit. It is a good kit with a lens brush, blower, chemicals, cotton balls, qtips, and various other things you may need. I have used it a couple of times on my eyepieces. They also have instructions on cleaning mirrors.

I would be nervous to put together my own cleaning solutions. It is worth it to me to pay the extra money to use their chemicals. I have had the kit for two years and probably cleaned my eyepieces 3-4 times.

I have the Lumicon kit... Not sure how I feel about it yet. Seems to leave things too "Watery" and takes extra effort to get dry without streaking.

For cleaning my expensive eyepieces, 90 proof rubbing alcohol( bought in any pharmacy), has always done a very good job for me!

Here's a vote for 100% cotton pads - ask your GF or wife to identify the premium ones - and 91% isopropyl alcohol. Blow off dust, use two pads, one for daubing, one for gentle wiping. Only for eyepieces!

I would guess you mean 90%, not 90 PROOF... 90 Proof is only 45%...

Bill,

What things did you used to use prior to this product? Sounds interesting, but just hate it when they don't list ingredients.

I personally have been able to clean away everything with with either water, alcohol (Ethyl), or saliva (for those bio things that can get on the lens like sap). One of these three usually dissolve it anything on the lens away.

So, should we not be using Windex because it doesn't work as well as some other stuff, or should we not be using it because we shouldn't be using it?

I feel pretty safe using it... it is part of a kit offfered by Roland Christan, but he only uses it if it is something real dirty on the optics, otherwise he uses Baader Optical Wonder. I figure if these products are good enough for him to use on his Astro-physics refractors it is going to be good enough to use on anthing I currently own.

Here is a link to Astro-physic cleaning kit:

Good points. I feel safe using it as well, and have never had a problem that I know of. Thanks for the link.
