NGC 7000 - Pentax 67 400 EDif lens E200 - 30 min @ F4. Got rid of more scanner noise with this image - but still things to fix.

Igor,

Great closeup with that amazing 400mm lens. Nice to see your photos posted. It has been a long challenging summer!

Thanks Jim, and I'm sure there are more trials and tribulations to come. I visit here often to listen to the sound of crickets. Kinda quiet around here.

Trying another scan with some differences - same exposure specs.

Very nice image, with a fantastic wide FOV.

Yes it is wide - that's the advantage of medium format. I'm very happy to have made the jump from my 35mm. Now I just need to finish up the book on Astrophotography and PhotoShop.

I noticed you have the ST-402 guider. Is this anything like the ST-4? I'm looking at getting one. I'm getting a bit old for manual guiding? Any info would be appreciated.

Here is another attempt at it with different scanner software.

The ST-402 is like a stripped-down ST-7, with the same sensor but no second guide chip. It has a much smaller body, with less capable cooling. It uses a fast (but noisier) readout technique, and has USB-2, so it can upload the exposures quickly (good for autoguiding). It requires a computer for autoguiding (I use MAXIM DL software), unlike the ST-4, but does hook into the mount through the ST-4 ports.

Igor,

Looks like your scanner issues are settling down. Awesome image of the North American. That 400mm is a great lens, and in capable hands I might add!

Thanks for the info. I've decided to get the ST-4 and use it just for guiding in stand alone mode.

That 400 lens might be great - but I have a ways to go to become capable. Thanks for the encouragement Jim. You have been a huge help.

Trying another scan, plus better PS skills. Seeing how this one compresses.
