Loose corrector plate on C5, how to align? new
      #2653161 - 09/20/08 10:17 AM

I just picked up a nice little C5 (G5) SCT to go along with my C8. I haven t had a chance to use it yet but today I noticed corrector plate was loose in the telescope body. The corrector plate could be rotated pretty easily. The threaded aluminum ring that holds it in place was not completely tight. How do I tell if the plate is in the correct orientation? Most other SCT I've seen had the serial number on the secondary mirror upright with respect to the top of the scope but this one was almost inverted. I pulled off the ring and took out the corrector plate to see if there were any alignment marks. I can't see any. The serial number is etched in the plate at the edge, to the right of the serial number when it's up right. How can I tell if the plate is in correctly? Should there be some alignment marks some where?

Serial number on the corrector _usually_ goes to three o'clock. If that conincides with the serial number on the secondary holder bein' upright, that is deefinitely your position.

The serial number is at 3 o'clock with the secondary being right side up. That's actually how I reassembled it, we'll see how it works on the next clear night. Thanks
