Motor Unit Fault new

I'm heartsick!

My 8" LX90GPS doesn't want to slew to the right. It'll slew up, down and to the left fine, but when I depress the > button, nothing. I take that back, it might do a little turn then stop, but more often, no movement. After a few seconds the 'Motor Unit Fault' message scrolls. I've even reversed the <> and when I depress the > button the scope slews to the left, as it should, but when I depress < the scope doesn't slew to the right as it should.

Had this happen once before while the scope was hooked up to a 12v JumpStart. Was trying out the scope during the day with a dew controller and a couple of strips and noticed during alignment there were little skips while turning to the right, then eventually the message. Took everything loose and hooked up the wallwart power supply (Meade AC Adaptor #541) and the problem went away. So I thought 'all is good, must of been a little burp in the supplied power'.

Now, nothing I do will make it slew to the right; AC power, JumpStart power or fresh batteries.

The scope is still under warranty until the middle of January, but, alas, didn't get SkyAssurance.

Any advise or words of comfort?

Open it up and check for loose connectors.

There's none that I can see. All the connections to the circuit board has a dollop of hot glue.

This isn't the first time it happened. The problem cleared up when I switched power source, JumpStart to AC Adaptor. Even been to a StarParty since it cleared up and the scope performed great.

Probably best to send it back to Meade under warranty. Mine had to go back twice in the first year.

That's kinda what I'm thinking.

At the same time I'm considering purchasing a 3yr SkyAssurance and Shipping for the scope. My thinking is that I should be able to recoup some of the cost of the 3yr SkyAssurance on this trip back to Meade.
Together they run $229.00. Looking on the UPS website, to send the scope back to Meade 3-Day Select will run about $153.00 and 2-Day Air $220.00.

One big question I have about sending the scope back is that there are some mods on the scope; Petersen EZ Clutch and EZ Focus. Just wondering if I have to undo those before sending it back.
