slews to wrong place????
      #2655979 - 09/22/08 05:59 AM

Hi folks:

I really need some big time help here. I have a brand new 12 " lx200 acf and can't seem to get it to slew to objects. For instance, when I tell it to goto jupiter (when its obvious where it is) it slews and points no where near it, in fact, it points down at the ground. Or when I tell it to goto cassiopea, it says its on it but its nowhere near it.

I have it mounted on a wedge, not sure if that matters....

help would be greatly appreciated as I have been at this for 3 nights in a row and it's getting very frustrating...

Hi Chris....that is one really good scope you have. If you recently purchased it "new"....then it still thinks it is in the USA...Irvine, CA. But having it on a wedge...you will have to Polar Align the scope. I've never polar aligned my scope so I'm not too familiar with the procedure. There are really good guys here that will assist. Patience is the key here and read your manual.

Good Luck and clear skies.

Cheers.

Hi Chris

If mounted on a wedge it must be set (in the handbox menus) to Polar ie...setup...telescope....mount...polar(not alt/az) and the wedge be pointing approx north south....with the sloping bit sloping up towards the south.

The scopes usually come new set up for Alt/Az so it may be worth just trying it set up on your tripod/pier without the wedge in Alt/Az mode first just to see if it accurately points.

Then try it on the wedge.

Tom
