PATS Report new
      #2642831 - 09/15/08 12:11 AM

Not exactly an astronomy report, but still related. I went with a friend to the PATS (Pacific Astronomy and Telescope Show) today in Pasadena California. The best description I can think of is WOW! All of the big names were there with lots of fun stuff to touch and look at. All of the manufacturers representatives were great, taking time to explain their products in a way that made sense to someone fairly new to this (me).
In addition to the manufacturers, there were also a couple of big dealers and unfortunately too many things on sale. While I did get out of the show without a new telescope (and that was not easy), I did get a Sky Scout by Celestron.
If this show ever happens again in this area, save your money and go (or hide your wallet and credit cards and stay away)

I wish they had something like that closer to my neck of the woods as I'll bet this is indeed a great event to attend. Unfortunately with gas at outrageous prices, all my spending money for the show would have been eaten up by the trip there and back.

Glad to hear you had a good time though.
