Ganymede is crossing the face of Jupiter
      #2659536 - 09/23/08 09:10 PM

This is just a heads up..it's now 9.07pm and Jupiter's Moon Ganymede is now crossing the face of the planet. Calisto is not far behind....maybe we will get to see both moons crossing Jupiter..

Cheers

Hey...no problem...I've seen Jupiter with the sun still up and one of it's moons was crossing it's face....it's a really good thing to catch. It looks like a shadow.

Clear Skies when the sun sets your way.

I'll have to check that out in a few minutes. When I first set up, around 8:30 local time, I could see the shadow transit of Io just finishing up - that's the first shadow transit I've seen.

I missed it because of the large row of tree's at my house that block that part of the sky! But Had i checked here or sky and tel or one of the other online resources earlier this evening i would have gone to a local field and setup! I have seen a double transit once or twice before and yes its fun to watch!

yeh, I saw that was up for tonite on 'The Planets' here...
http://www.cpac.org.uk/
Seeing was awful, upper levels haze was heavy, and most of the transits were too late for me to catch. I can only watch Jupe until about 10pm here. Then its lost in the trees.

I had the scope all set up last night. But I was supposed to be watching a movie with my family. I went out a few times and apparently missed the crossing! D'oh!
