Lunt Solar Conf. 11/7-11/9 Anyone Else?
      #2665320 - 09/26/08 07:52 PM

I picked up on the Lunt Solar Conference to be held in Tucson Nov. 7-9in S&T and Astronomy ads. No information is on the website yet but I'm registered to go.I have been surprised that no mention of it has appeared in this forum-or maybe I just missed it.

All the same, is anyone else planning on attending? If for no other reason it is an opportunity to hear Greg Piepol, Gary Palmer and get some eye-time on the Lunt Solar scopes.

I don't believe the CN TOS won't allow me to post the forwarded information I received from Lunt here.

If you are interested in the details I that I have rec'd from Lunt send me a PM and I'll forward the schedule that I have.

Please, serious inquires only.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I have no financial interest in Lunt Solar products or their programs.

There's no reason that Lunt could not post their information in our Vendors forum.

It'll be a blast, Bruce!

Solar observing through the big scopes, imaging sessions, behind the scenes factory tour, exciting solar speakers (Gary Palmer no less!)... and hanging out in Tucson with some of the most die-hard solar enthusiast on planet Earth.
And that's the free part!

Throw in some extremely dark sky observing (at 9000') and a fiesta and it can only get better.

As you already know Bruce, these types of events teach you things you can't learn anywhere else and you walk away with friends and contacts that really enhance your understanding of our hobby.

See you there,

Greg Piepol

I went ahead and registered. I've got my new scope and I need to compare I with another as so far I've got nada. But it could be a case that the sun has not been very active the past week. The problem is that the AASP is only a couple of weeks before and I had planned on going to that but I cannot take the time off to do both. Because I'm really getting into solar now and they are nicely offering me a place to park with my rig I'll most likely go to the solar. I can't afford the trip or party though because I upgraded to the B1200 filter so tapped out!

Wish these kind of events would occur in Europe..

Ideally in the UK, but even Germany would be something

Totally agree, it would be great to have a Solar event where all the European imagers/observers could meet up. As half of the Lunt setup is in Germany perhaps Markus Ludes could be persuaded to let us have a look around the factory there - if there is actually anything to see? Perhaps also a trip out to a solar observatory ? Even a BAA Solar Section meet up in the UK would be something.

BAA do have a solar section meet up..but something more akin to the "Hands on the Sun" events would, I agree, be quite good

Nick,

Now this is something I can make happen! As event planning is something I know alittle about.
I will see what we can do in the future. Sounds like a great idea. When is it the SUNNY time of year for you?
And which part of the UK would be the best area to hold such an event?

Liking your idea

Alan

To be fair to the entire UK, sometime around late August/early Sept (best for possible Sun) and in Birmingham/midlands area, (not London, as this is a common complaint for events). That gives the large and active North/Scotland userbase a better chance of getting down to such an event.

There are a wide range of star parties in the UK, so also places like Kelling Heath could be an option, as then, the Solar fans could also do some evening viewing and imaging (something which Birmingham would not permit...lit up like a xmas tree)

Interesting....that's "monsoon" season in Tucson (yes, they get clouds in the desert sometimes).

I'm ashamed to admit that my time in the UK has been limited to one overnight in London and a couple of 6-hour layovers at Heathrow (I did take the Tube into town, rather than just hang at an airport bar), and I'd love to make amends for that. And if this also involved meeting some of the "UK advance team" that has kept me posted most mornings on what's coming my way, so much the better!

Cheers,

Jim

Does spending a week in Hong Kong in 1967 count??

I'll be there. Looking forward to it.

Matter of fact, I'm REAL interested in not only a view through some of the larger Ha offerings, but also the Calcium line.
