Hmm, this right here indicates to me that they are not shipping in the order the orders were taken. While I understand the fact that other countries may get theirs in different orders, I don't understand how an order number of 20k will beat out my order number of 600ish when I'm right down the road from this guy. As far as I can see, no reason an order of 2 scopes should get priority either (I ordered 6 which I think is an easy to ship box). I'm a bit discouraged by this and the fact that there is no way to verify they didn't lose my order or anything of the sort.

Quote:

I ordered May 29, order # 20970. I received it today. I'm in Schaumburg, IL (northwest suburb of Chicago). My order was for two scopes.

My original order number was 87 which I had to redo because of a glitch in their payment system. The new order number was 11340. I order 4 scopes. I then received an email from Rick on 6/25/09 stating I should receive my order within two weeks. I then had another email exchange with Rick on 07/09/09 in which I indicated I was starting to get a little nervous and he responded that a lot people that received the 6/25 email probably felt the same way and that I should receive my order within the week. So far, nothing. Not providing tracking information puts the customer at a distinct disadvantage. They should at a bare minimum have a facility on their website where the customer can enter their order number and see if it shipped yet. I would like to know if anybody with order number 1-100(the group that had to redo)has received any scopes yet.

There's a new no-text assembly guide posted on the Galileoscope site:

Pretty cute!

Now I've found the full instructions on the Galileoscope site, I'd better have another look at that barlow - I think I don't have the lenses in correct order. The Plossl is fine, but the view with the added barlow is terrible at the edges.

By the way, to use a diagonal, try a barlow between the focusser and the diagonal to allow focus to be reached. I made it work with a 3x Televue barlow. I've arranged to get a short 2x barlow and will experiment further this weekend.

It's not possible to place them incorrectly, both sides of the 2 pieces have the same shape as far as I can tell.

Here's what I get:

In other words, to fully utilize the 2" glass you'll need to get a new barlow. A small inconvenience for the 15USD price tag.

Zoeff, the pictorial instructions seem to show that the two lenses do have to go in the holder in the right order. Picture 45 however shows a different shape to one of the lenses than is described in the other instruction notes. I have to pull mine apart and get out my magnifying glass to identify them and insert then as per the instructions. I hope I find that they were back to front.

By the way, I'm visually seeing the edge distortion I believe I can see in your afocal shot.

Hmm, they were the wrong way around according to those steps. However, I'm not seeing that much difference. Here's for comparison:

Yes, I had the thinner lens around the wrong way - the one I have marked with an "*" on the figure. I've now swapped it around but cannot test for a while.

I note the two sets of instructions describe this lens differently - the words/picture version says flat one side, convex the other. The picture only version of instructions shows concave one side and convex the other. Mine was flat one side and convex the other.

Zoeff, just checking - you have put the field stop into the plossl eyepiece? So the rough edge of field with the barlow in place is not the absence of the field stop?

Your 25x image looks clean at the edge, so I presume it is in place. Thanks Eric

Indeed it is, no idea why it's rough in the 50x configuration though.

A friend of mine from work and I ordered ours around the same time last February for delivery to northern Minnesota. His order number was around 900, mine was just over 1000. He got his today and I got nothing. Uff... He didn't get any sort of email alert or anything. I'm gonna be watching the mail real close now.

I don't think that it's still an ordering fiasco at this point. More of a shipping fiasco...

I'm afraid as a newbie that I need someone to spell it out for me. I think I have the two smallest lenses together properly. I have the thinnest lens toward the larger end of the eyepiece as in picture # 45. Is this correct?

I've discovered that I have an abundance of light pollution in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, but Jupiter is really great to observe! However, my cheapo camera tripod allows a ton of vibration (even when the wind blows a bit), I can't get the 50x configuration to really sharpen up, and 25x configuration is only sharp if the focus tube is all the way in.

I'm finding that if my focus tube is pushed in all the way, I'm pulling out the eyepiece when I try to pull out the focus tube.

Any suggestions?

Andy_H, you have them in the correct order however you might've placed the thinner one the wrong way around. The bulged end should fit into the slightly thicker lens.

About the focus tube, the smaller rubber o-rings go around the ends of it making it easier to get a grip when sliding it out.
