This thing needs to survive the economy and become a staple -- a go to item for our hobby and for education around the world.
I haven't received my Galileoscope yet, but I agree that this telescope should be marketed beyond IYA 2009. It seems like the type of thing that would sell very well in science centers, science museums, educational material stores, specialty toy stores, and, of course, telescope stores. It could be part of the curriculum at schools. Perhaps someone involved in the project should approach a curriculum development company like K12.

Hi folks.
Just received my order for 2 scopes placed on June 3rd and numbered in the 23500's. I believe that these scopes are part of the "second wave" of scopes to ship. I live in Frederick, MD. I'm looking forward to putting one together with my daughter!
Cheers, Chris

Hi Tom. I live in West Bend but I work out of Menonomee Falls and have clients all over the area. I'd love to get down to your place. My company, Graphics Systems Corporation, is a charter SolidWorks VAR and I've been with the company for over 17 years, so I've been following this whole project with a very keen interest.

After 6 months and 7 days of waiting... my galileoscope has arrived! Thank you. I actually don't have it with met yet because my cousin ordered it for us. So... I have to go back to my hometown to pick it up (which I will do in an hour!!)

My order of two scopes from February arrived today. Yay!
Based on the tracking label on the package, this was sent just two days ago, so thank you Tom and the other volunteers.

I got mine just today, in time for the full moon! Very nice design, and the assembly simple, and a great education in basic telescope mechanics. Well done, team! Now to get it out on the good tripod! Happy IYA

I was looking at Jupiter and its moons tonight and it is an awesome sight. I was wondering if it is possible to get a Barlow with a little bigger field of view?

It's great to hear that you got your order filled, AndySocial. That gives me hope that mine (order #6685, March 10) may arrive soon.

Got one scope assembled yesterday, with my son's assistance. Naturally, we were totally cloud-covered until this afternoon. Such anticipation!
We got to see Jupiter and four of its moons tonight, as well as a quick glance at Vega before the clouds returned. Loving the Galileoscope already!

Does anyone know how the schedule for shipments is going after they recieved the last supply in Aug? The site says that the scopes are shipping in 4 to 6 weeks since that time frame, but I'm wondering how true that is. Next week is the 6th week for me.

WOOT! My scope finally arrived yesterday. I was just beginning to lose hope. My Order was # 25775 placed on july 2nd and i live in homer Illinois . i came on the least expected day. I just came back from running and it was on my doorstep, so i couldn't tell who delivered it. it was very easy to assemble. The instructions it comes with look as if it was a joke. If anyone has any trouble putting this scope together i recommend this one. and for the barlow lens here.
and of course it was cloudy today but i took this bad boy out and saw jupiter and its moons. pretty good sight for 15 bucks. Can't wait to see the moon in October.
Clear Skies!

Mine just got here about an hour ago. I took 20 mins to look through it all and put it together, although the instructions did not say how the 2x baralow lenses were supposed to fit together so I had to check online. So I'm expecting about a week of cloud cover now. And the sad thing is last night it was crystal clear which would have been perfect. The stars were not twinkling at all nice sharp views.

Just a brief story from a newbie:
I helped a friend grind a mirror in high school but have never owned a scope. I found out about the Galileoscope in late spring, ordered one and donated one, and received it in early August or so.
I waited until our annual vacation to northeast Vermont to put it together. There's a big dark grassy hill behind the inn where we stay: we go up to check out the Milky Way on clear nights. We put together the scope in a half-hour or so on the first clear night. The instructions in the box were inadequate, especially for the eyepieces, but the inn has wifi and we were able to refer to the 7-page instructions online. I put in the 25x EP and put it on my cheapo camera tripod and we went up the hill.
The friction-slide focusing is tricky but after some fiddling I was able to get sharp image. There was a quarter moon, and we had a wondeful view. My wife and 16yo had never really looked through a telescope before, and they were wowed. I was very impressed by the view with such a small, inexpensive scope.
I looked around the sky a bit more, and saw something bright: "That is probably a planet." After a bit of aiming, there was Jupiter, with four bright moons very clearly seen. Again, the excitement of a live view of something seen previously only in photographs was wonderful for everyone.
So now I am checking Craiglist and reading reviews on smaller Dobs, and got some books from the library. We'll see...

Dan, welcome to CN! Glad to hear you have your Galileoscope. Sounds like an excellent outing with your family.
I'm sure the Galileoscope group would be pleased to hear that their inexpensive telescope has motivated you to consider pursuing the hobby.
The smaller Orion and Zhumell dobs can be purchased new for very reasonable prices. You may want to look at those.
Good luck!
