The 2 thin O-rings I had left over b-a-r-e-l-y stretched enough over the and rear sight and mounting block to fit into the grooves on either side of the logo. Snugs up the body a little but it doesn't appear to be a necessary step. And it slows down dissambly if you want to demonstrate the innards of the GS.

This morning my NexStar 8SE arrived from the 'states (24 hours after the Galileoscope... ) which I ordered with a Celestron Barlow. I just had to try this barlow with the Galileoscope.
The new barlow in the optical train:
The result:
For comparison:
In short, the image looks much better with the new barlow! The color difference is mostly because of the different lighting combined with the auto white balance I left on so ignore the colors please!

Nice! I take it that's with the plastic lensed 20mm eyepiece, then? Did you try any other eyepieces in it?

It's the plastic plössl yes, and no I haven't but I doubt I'd be able to spot the difference since I'm only 2 astronomy days old (Hehe). Perhaps the remaining distortion around the edges will vanish.

I was puzzled by the 4 O-rings too.
But the big ones fit on the main tube.
look here:
You can see, they are on the outside.

While I'm waiting, does anyone have any thoughts about accessories that might make sense? I went and ordered a cheap point and shoot camera adapter I found online - $20 seemed like a reasonable risk.
Does it make sense to consider buying another eyepiece or two? I realize the fundamental limitations of the galileoscope would make higher magnification useless for most things, but how about for the moon and bright planets? And what might be a good bang-for-the-buck option that is suited to the galileoscope?
And has anyone come up with good storage/carrying case idea? I was thinking a plastic blueprint tube with secure endcaps from an office supply or art store would do the trick for $10 or so.

That's quite interesting XP_Freak, though not very practical for me as I intent to demonstrate it's (relative) simplicity whenever I can. Many people don't even realize you can see the moons of jupiter with such a small telescope.
GregAlt, you might want to get a better barlow. See my flickr page here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/zoeff/ for pictures taken trough the Galileoscope with the supplied barlow and a Celestron Barlow. Other then that, a camera tripod would be very useful but I'm guessing you already figured that out.

I'll let my daughter use the Galileoscope when it arrives. Maybe I'll put it on a CG3 equatorial mount that I have, or more probably a little altazimuth mount. I may try it out as a finder for one of my telescopes. I have a 27mm Antares Kellner eyepiece with crosshairs that I could use to achieve 19X. The apparent field of view is only 48 degrees, so the true field would be about 2.6 degrees, which is pretty narrow for a finder. I could slip in a focal reducer to bring it down to about 9X with a true field of view of 5.2 degrees, which is acceptable. Also, the Galileoscope is f10, so the color aberration should be low, and being able to change the eyepiece is an advantage over the usual finder. In any event, it will be a learning experience for my daughter as we put it together.

On July 1st, one of members (above) reported that he received his order of 10 telescopes, which he ordered on Feb 23rd. His order number was #1152.
I had placed two orders, one being on Feb 19th for 5 units, and another on Feb 21st for 2 additional units.
Since they say the units are being shipped in order of "order number", I should have received both of my shipments, but I have not. An email to them "autoresponds" that they will not be answering emails, because of the sheer number of emails that they are receiving.
We can call and leave a recorded message, but heck, if they won't answer email, why pay for a phone call?
Can people please post their order number and/or dates when they receive shipments? At least for awhile? It might help others gauge when they should be receiving theirs.
Thanks.

I ordered mine on Feb 23 as well, with an order number of 1129. I have yet to receive it (ordered two). I'm really hoping it comes in this next week as one's a gift for my niece and next week is the only time I'll see her all year

My two arrived this morning in Melbourne, Australia. Label suggests they were posted in Denmark. Also they appear to have been posted as two separate items, but did arrive together.

Everybody's probably refreshing the galileoscope page every 5 minutes, but I noticed a new update addressing some of the concerns mentioned here:

Galileoscopes are now being delivered! Tens of thousands of kits have already arrived in customers' hands, and more are on the way!
If you placed your order in February, March, April, or May 2009, you should receive your Galileoscope(s) by the end of July.
We're shipping orders in order of receipt, but this doesn't guarantee that they'll reach their destinations in the same order — it takes different amounts of time to reach different parts of the world, and we're using a variety of postal/parcel carriers and freight forwarders. Sorry, but we can't provide tracking information for your order (that's part of how we keep the cost of the Galileoscope so low).
Supposedly the first batch was 60,000, so "tens of thousands" should be on track for meeting the claim of all of us receiving them by the end of July.

I ordered May 29, order # 20970. I received it today. I'm in Schaumburg, IL (northwest suburb of Chicago). My order was for two scopes.
Being brand new to telescopes, I can't wait to get out there and try it tonight (looking pretty clear so far).
But one question: I tried the 18x Galilean configuration. What's the point? It's such a small FOV! Seems to make sense only in conjunction with the other eyepiece.

I'm not going to try. I built the plossl and the barlow. I think the point is that we would then appreciate, even more, Galileo's accomplishments!

Every 5 minutes?? C'mon, that's a bit obsessive, isn't it? I mean every 10 minutes, yeah, but not every 5!!!

Now I've found the full instructions on the Galileoscope site, I'd better have another look at that barlow - I think I don't have the lenses in correct order. The Plossl is fine, but the view with the added barlow is terrible at the edges.
By the way, to use a diagonal, try a barlow between the focusser and the diagonal to allow focus to be reached. I made it work with a 3x Televue barlow. I've arranged to get a short 2x barlow and will experiment further this weekend.
