Isn't THAT the truth! I've got my trusty 'ol Armada 7800 sittin' here next to me... plugged into the wall outlet 'cause the battery is shot... Still runs like a champ!

If I don't get the acer this week, I think I'm going to cancel my order and waste my money on the N10.
Either way, I'd like to hear about your take on what you eventually purchase Tom. I still have a astronomy related programming project in mind that would make great use of a netbook and it's smaller form factor...

I am sorry Tom but i think the 160GB is hard to find anywhere, i hear that on walmart (dont know if online or in store) they sell it 1 week ago and walmart sell all the stock in 2 days or less (i dont know how many did they got).
I think tom you should wait or keep looking from other acer's dealers to see if the 160gb version pop up around.

Stock is expected in the states this week. CDW reported they are getting them in today, Amazon shows a "delivered by" estimate for my order placed on 4 september of the 25th (thursday).
However, there is a rumor that blue won't be in stock till the end of october. I don't know if that means they are all sold out of blue (due to preorders) till late october or that no blue are shipping to the states till then.
I should find out this week.

FWIW, the Asus 1000H now has a 160GB drive for $479 at New Egg. Had a ball with mine over the weekend. Great for travel, though I did have to buy a external modem for dial up internet. Works well for what I wanted it for which was e-mail, websurfing and some astro applications such a Stellarium, ect. Did not intend to use it for graphic intense games, but will be interested in your impressions of the N10.... should you go for it.

Amazon notified me today that my order is in limbo. They have not received their stock, and have no idea when they are going to get it.
I've canceled my order and decided to spend the cash on some binoculars instead.
Guess I'll just have to keep "lugging" my 4.5 lb, 13.3", dual core toshiba a while longer.

Ton so sorry to hear that!...the little saspire one Windowx XP version big HD is selling like panckages..here in mexico they bring some and they are out of the shelves the same day or 2..it doesnt last very long. I think Acer didnt expect to have a great impact with this little laptops..but heck most fo the people is wanting one!.
I am so sorry Tom..maybe later when demand is low you could grab a good one, i expect more companies this year and next are coming with their same models.
Well the Asus is good Jim and yes this little guys cant play intensive graphics games, i expect the next wave of this little laptops with ATi or Nvidia motherboard cards (like my big acer that have a ATi X1100 integrated card), I expect some of the lower ends cards been on this little motherboards (X300, X600 ATi) so that capacity would be enough for playing games (not Crysis or nre Call of duty) but at least will give you something to chew on.

I could always go nuts(loco) and hook up one of these:
Asus XG Station external GPU
...to my little Asus 1000H.

Hi Jim,
I was wondering about the ASUS 1000H if it can run Stellarium and or capture frames from a webcam (for astrophotography) without dropping frames. I am thinking of getting one.
Thanks in advance,
Kosta

Hi Costa,
I've had no problems with the Asus 1000H runing Stellarium. I've never captured frames with a laptop nor know what computer resourses are needed. I think it would work, perhaps slower with the Stellarium running at the same time. The Asus RAM can be upgraded to 2 GB. Just a matter of loosening two small screws, opening the panel and swapping out the memory. Should boost performance.

Asus seems easy to upgrade the ram, the aspire one will you need to open it up complity actually (some say this will void the guarante) to do an upgrading (and you caon only have max 1.5 gigs of ram)... so the asus looks like a bite better on that aspect

I managed to pick up the demo model (the last one) of the Aspire 4520 at Wal-Mart. $358.00 + taxes. It came with 2 Gigs of RAM and a 160 Gb Hard Drive and most important..4 USB 2.0 Ports. What my Compaq Presario, with only 2 USB 2.0 ports wouldn't do, even with a 4 port powered hub, was run my DMK webcam and Orion StarShoot, and USB to Serial Cable. It would freeze the cameras no matter what config on the Compaq that I tried.
Well, this ACER works with all devices attached to the 4 Port powered hub. Now I can get to work doing some autoguiding.
Many of the laptops, Dell, Toshiba, etc have only 2 or 3 USB ports. That's what I liked about the ACER, regarless of price. It also looks like the USB ports, 2 on each side, are powered off separate busses providing less of a current/voltage drop for "needy" deivces. I say this because my webcam doesn't freeze with two other devices attached.
