LXD75 autoguiding new
      #2672055 - 09/30/08 01:17 PM

want to order an Orion Star Shoot Autoguider today, i have an LXD75 and the AUX port is not being used, anyone here that might have an autoguider know if this will work with my LXD75,
could i also use a webcam for autoguiding plugged into my laptop using Maxim DL, or does auto guiding have to be controlled directlly from the camera to the mount?
i need help
thanks
eric

Look into the PHD software. You will need a cable to go from a com port to the autostar handbox. PHD will then guide with about any camera.

You'll need a 909 APM to guide with, but you may be able to pulse guide thru the hand controller.

okay i got a web cam a couple days ago and modified it so it can fit on my finder scope, come to find out that doesnt work because after PHD does a calibration it says "RA failed..star didnt move enough",im guessing because the finder scope isnt powerful enough to bring the guide star in close to detect any movement. so i purchased a short tube from orion for guiding and it will be here tonight, so im gonna give that a try, if all eles fails i'll try the pulse guiding, not sure how though. LOL

I think the rule of thumb is your guide scope should the same or a bit higher focal length than your imaging scope.

Did you try to guide with the web cam in your main scope? then you will know that PHD is working for you.
