Lumicon/Baader H-Alpha, OIII, SII filters?
      #2676909 - 10/02/08 06:48 PM

Does anyone use the narrowband filters from Baader or Lumicon? If so, are they decent? They seem to be quite a bit less costly than some other brands out there.

I have seen quite a few people use Baader filters(especially the Ha,its very popular AFAIK).
The Lumicons are strictly visual(IIRC).Except for thier so called Ha filter which is really a 65nm bandpass filter(way too big for NB work, but is good for film IIRC).

If you are looking to get into NB,go with the lower cost Baader.UNLESS you see your self getting a ST-10XME or something in the future then maybe get one good filter at a time.I am not planning on upgrading my cams anytime soon(my wife would kill me,and she has'nt even noticed the C10N yet ) but I came across an Astronomik 13nm Ha 2" for a good deal and picked it up knowing I can keep it for cams with chips upto~35mm diagonal...which is WAAAY out of my price range now anyways....

That's good to know. The goal is to definitely go into narrow band imaging. I can probably slide in the filters right now, but a new camera will have to wait until Tax return time for sure, or my wife will definitely notice and decide to kill me lol.

BTW, how could yours not notice a C10?? LOL! Women notice EVERYTHING.

If you got a whole set of Baader filters I am sure you would be able to sell them in the future when you upgrade...
I could not afford a new camera till ohh...2015...and when I say affrod I mean get approval by she who must not be named... J/K!!!!!

She has'nt noticed it yet because I recieved it while she was at work and when I installed the new Moonlight she was at work as well...which by the way,Moonlight focusers are the nicest accy. I have ever seen for scopes!!

The baadars are very good and dont suffer the reflection issues that have plagued some people using the astronomik narrow band filters
some good images taken with baader filters here

Those are excellent shots. Is that your site? I really like the Eagle Nebula shot on there.
