I don't get to see Venus very often except when I wake up at 4am for rowing practice during the spring. Anyway I have terrible horizons where live. About 15 minutes ago I went outside and saw a beautiful crescent moon alongside Venus. It rated pretty high on my ooh ahh list since both Venus and the Moon were perfectly situated in the only place where I have good enough horizons to see them.

A beautiful sight to be sure. When I was younger I would imagine that Venus was in orbit around the moon. Especially striking when they were both in the same crescent phase.

I'd love to see them in the same field of view one day.

I saw Venus through a scope for the first time on Saturday night. It was an obvious gibbus but other than that it looked like it was on fire. It looked more like a misshapen star than a planet =P. I'm still glad I finally saw it through my scope though.

I finally caught Venus the other night before dark, and just before it dipped into the trees. I had my ST80 out to set up for when it got completely dark. The image wasn't what I'd have liked it to be, though, but it was good to just see it. Even though it wasn't fully dark yet, I still stopped down the aperture to help with any false color. I tried 104x and could see it ok, but not clearly. Oh, I wanted to run in and get the 8" SCT, but there wasn't time before it disappeared. Oh well, another night. I later went on to have a ball scanning Aquila and Ophiuchus.

Venus is never much to look at, but I do enjoy the phases to a degree.
