I think Uncle Rod hit it right on when he said there's a whole lot of whining. Don't get me wrong - I don't own an Ethos, and I don't plan on buying one... ever (well, maybe if I get Lasik done on my eyes). My beef with the Ethos is the eye relief - it's just too small to accommodate viewing with glasses. Also, I don't feel particularly drawn to the uberwide views, for whatever reason, although I'll admit I haven't had time to use one for more than a few minutes. Mostly I enjoy the Ethos' I have used because they give a very "clean" image. I gotta hand it to Televue though, because the Ethos is fine ocular in that when you look through one, it is as if the object you're looking at is 3 feet in front of your scope, not millions of lightyears away. The view is just that clear. I got a chance to look through a 28" dob a few months ago at GSSP with a 13mm Ethos, and the views were... insane. As for me - I'll stick with the Pentax XWs and Nagler T4s for now.

It's true that there are some elitists out there, but I don't believe that Ethos owners are necessarily elitists...

I thought Rod's article might be a little on the strident side, but the number of critical pronouncements from people who have little or no experience using these eyepieces for their intended purposes must be some kind of all-time record. I'm not pointing fingers, really. I've personally been on both sides, so I can't really criticize anybody without criticizing myself in the process.

Me a salesman? Nobody would be dumb enough to want me for that gig: "Uhhh..wut's up, there, Skeezix?! Wanna buy sumpin, do ya?"
The Ethos? I calls 'em as I sees 'em...and MAN DO I SEES 'EM with the Ethos.

Nah...you missed the whole point if you think I'm attackin' somebody. Go back and read it again. Followin' that, write on the blackboard 600 times: "Unk Rod is Not Woeful."

Well, if I ever buy an Ethos, it will be after I get to spend some quality time with one in my scope. The T4 Nagler is right about the size I need to roll my eyeball around to see the field stop (I actually see a little less than the full field normally).
If the Ethos is the same, but with more of the field off on the periphery, I'll likely be happy with a set of Naglers instead.
That said, I really do think the pricing of the Ethos line stings, and would grab 'em used if at all possible. Of course, I say the same thing about the Naglers too. I wouldn't turn down an Ethos though, even though I wasn't entirely enthused by the chance I did get to look through one... it was a very clear eyepiece, if a little too wide for my tastes.

Never thought I'd ever want to trade up my T4 Naglers for an Ethos, but I got lucky last weekend and won a 13mm at a star party. Even got to use it that night and it is a nice complement to my telescope. Just awesome views and maybe even a bit "majestic".
This changed everything. I've only sold the 12T4 and a few LVW's so far. I'll hang onto the 17T4 unless I find I'm not using it enough to justify keeping it. By selling the EPs I was able to jump on a "used" LNIB 8mm Ethos for more power.
I used to have a whole slew of EPs, but this will pare it down to four: the two Ethoi, the 17T4, and a 26T5 plus a 2x Powermate. I can't wait to get out and use it again. And it does feel like the first time I was able to afford a used Nagler. The EP just disappeared and was very much like looking out a porthole into space.

with more than 1300 posts in just 15 months I think maybe you need to consider less talking and more listening. But I suppose that an old saying might just apply in that one man's junk is another man's treasure.

Hi Jason and Carol,
The best things in like are free, or something like that. This is the first time I've ever won something great in a raffle. Sorry about messing up the sky, Jason, but I think the fellow who won the 20mm Pentax had a little to do with it, too.
I was just out using it in my refractor but with the light pollution around here I didn't see much, except I did put it on the double double and I swear at 53x I was just barely able to almost split them.
