Heavier duty mounts w/o electronics...
      #2677475 - 10/03/08 01:29 AM

Does anyone know of any companies that make heavier duty mounts that don't need electronics? I guess one example would be like those old Unitron clock driven mounts. I know nobody makes a clock drive mount anymore, but I was hoping for something like the Orion Skyview Pro, which just has little knobs for DEC and RA, nothing fancy dancy, except with a higher payload.

Am I just being foolish? Should I just give up on this and go for a G-11 and deep cycle marine battery?

"What could possibly have driven the cost that high? It seems to be a very simple instrument."

"It used quantum optics. Restoration was fraught with uncertainty."
