SkyWatcher Now Supported - Celestron ASCOM Drivers
      #2678854 - 10/03/08 08:21 PM

I've been testing out PHD for autoguiding the last week or so. Up until today, I could only use the EQMOD/ASCOM EQ5/6 drivers for my SkyWatcher HEQ-5 Pro as using the previous Celestron/ASCOM Driver said "Pulse Guiding Not Supported".
I don't know if this is old news, but I just downloaded the latest Celstron ASCOM driver 5.0.10 and without mention in the driver update text, down at the bottom of the list of Celestron mounts is the SkyWatcher.

I went into PHD and selected the new Celestron > SkyWatcher driver and low and behold, no Pulse Guide error!

I suppose now that because Synta has taken over Celestron, they can now specify the SkyWatcher mount in their driver list.

Here's the download link:

What is the advantage of using Celestron/Skywatcher ASCOM driver instead of EQ5/EQ6 ?

Probably none, but now that there's a dedicated SkyWatcher driver, I think I should give it a try, now that it supports Pulse Guiding. The screen appearance of ASCOM is quite nice though. I downloaded the latest EQMOD/ASCOM version 1.15 today and had trouble connecting to my HEQ-5 Pro. I tried numerous times (Version 1.14 would work.)
I went in to PHD and Starry Night about 10 times with the new Celestron/SkyWatcher driver and it connected every time.
