I'm looking at building a 10'x10' octagonal deck in the back yard, and adding a concrete(?) pier in the center. Pouring a 30" pier seems relatively straightforward, but how would one attach an LX200 without a wedge?
I'm envisioning some sort of riser with an attachment bolt underneath, with room to get your hand underneath.
And how about a removable table top, so the deck could do double duty?

Jeff, I like the table top idea! How about using some Stainless steel plates and rods to make both a mounting plate for the scope, and a base for the table top to mount to.

Hi Jeff. Check out www.backyardobservatories.com for a plate for such a pier that fits the LX in ALT/AZ or wedge. Hope this helps. Scott

$140?! For two pieces of metal and some bolts? I think it's time to look up fabricators in the phone book.
The pictures sure do help, though.
(Why did I waste all that time in college prep courses instead of taking metal shop?)

Actually thats not that bad a price when you factor in how nicely made they are. Unless you scrounged around for the galvanized plate, a machine shop to machine everything and the gas traveling to and from those places.......Not a bad deal after all.

Materials were probably $50.00, Plating is $80.00 minimum lot charge out here. Not a bad deal at all in my professional opinion.
