I have both for use in my SV 80mmED, which is f7. In your slower SCT these will both probably perform a little better. The 40mm has more astigmatism but the panoramic view of the sky is truly breathtaking. The 30mm is quite a bit sharper, it softens only at the very edge of the fov. The more I use the 30mm, the more I like it.
Either one will do fine for you. What are you looking to accomplish?

I haven't looked through a 40mm but my wife won a 30mm at the recent Black Forest Star Party and it gives really nice views through both our 6" f8 and 12" f5 reflectors. Recommended

Burgess was selling the 30mm on special to members of the burgess refractor group only .I am sure you can call Bill or Tammy and talk them into selling you one .If they have any left that is. I tried a friends 40mm . It was nice except for a little field curvature. I have a 10"f6 Now the 30mm Paragon gives such a clean image in my scope. I Looked at the veil nebula and it looked like I was using an o3 filter. Very very nice. The double cluster looked great. I have been using an ultima 35 for over 10 years. I might not sell it,But I don't see myself using it anymore. Joe

Since you already have a 30mm EP you like, I'd go with the 40mm Paragon, which is a fantastic low-power EP, especially for the money. Tom Trusock did a really nice report on it and some other low-power EP's here on CN a while back.

Rob-
While Burgess still lists the "regular" price on their website, by phone they'll sell you the 30mm 'Gon for $99... they did for me, and membership in ANYthing was not asked or discussed. Shipped it was ~$107. And as i understand it, the $99 "sale" is for the 30mm only, not the 40.
I'd imagine EITHER one would be quite excellent in your SCT!

Yep, Mike has it right. My buddy and I both picked one up on the $99 deal and membership was not mentioned.

$99 for a 30mm Paragon is an incredible deal. It's a great finder and widefield EP. I use it with my refractors since the Panoptic 35 is too heavy.
